Ama-Gi
Ama-Gi is a Student short Film directed by Hannah Ballard for her senior capstone project. Hannah wanted to tap into a dark but all too real story about womanhood and a desire to break free from the shackles of patriarchy. The director addressed hardship, grief, and escapism surrounding themes of sexual assault. This project had to be handled with care, subtlety, nuance, and sensitivity as it covers such a traumatic experience too many women tend to face in their lives.
Hannah created a safe and productive environment choosing to lead a primarily female crew asking them for insight, feedback, and critique surrounding the story. With this great leadership and a creative prowess, Ama-Gi became a beautiful yet haunting tale as our lead was able to spread her wings, and ‘return to mother.’
