How To Kiss Your Co-Star!

Written & Directed by Bella Marchena

A SADUB Entertainment & ChapChap Entertainment Production

How to Kiss Your Co-Star is everything that is fun within the film industry. In this adorable romcom we follow the two young actors “Ginny” and “Drew” as they navigate having their first kiss be on screen.

For this project I had the amazing opportunity to lead the motion graphics end of post production. I was able to create animated title cards, a title sequence, and other silly elements for the short film. My goal was to replicate the look and feel of a sequence created during the “Golden Age” of Hollywood.

Opening Title Card

One of the many cute animations I had the privilege of making was this opening title card!

Inspired by the recent musical to movie adaptation blockbuster, Wicked, I wanted the type to have that timeless feel while commanding the screen.

Instead of jumping right into the film, we are met with grandure and an attention grabber to ensure that the audience is ready to watch.

Freeze Frames

Meet Ginny & Drew!

Played by Angela Smith (Ginny) and Porter Scalon (Drew) these two kids took the screen by storm! It was only fitting I help introduce their characters with similar grandure as the opening title card.

Equipped with a funny phrase to summarize the moment, we take a moment and pause the chaos to ground the viewer.

To create the subtle fade and blur I capitalized on a combination of effects including gaussian blur, simple choker, and noise. The motion is refined yet delicate against a color shift from full color to black and white.

I framed each character using different layers and masks to make sure the viewer knows exactly who we are referencing.

Now, kick back, relax, and enjoy the show!
